Block Numbering Areas (BNAs) served as the rural equivalent to census tracts in the
1990 Census. They are areas defined for the purpose of grouping and numbering blocks in
counties where there are no census tracts. BNAs do not cross county boundaries. They are
identified by census tract-type numbers ranging from 9501.00 to 9989.99. Each number is
unique within a county. BNAs may be split for tabulation purposes by the boundaries of
places, MCDs and CCDs. |
